MEXA-1230 PM

Overview

The Essential R&D Tool for Real Time Measurement of Particulate Matter (PM)

  • Real-time measurement of Particulate Matter (PM)
  • Measures either tunnel-diluted or raw exhaust
  • Displays measured values of target components: Soot, SOF (Soluble Organic Fraction) and Total-PM; in mg/m3 by conversion coefficients

Features

  • High sensitivity measurements of Soot and SOF by independent methods
  • Total PM Mass reported as the sum of Soot and SOF
  • Remote Operation, controlled from host CPU via AK protocol

Soot is measured by a Diffusion Charging method

  • Soot is measured by a diffusion charger (DC).
Sample is diluted with an ejector pump. Soot concentration is calculated by measuring the electrical current of ions attached onto the surface of charged particles.
  • SOF is calculated by two flame ionization detectors (FID).
SOF concentration is calculated as the differente between the Signals from two FIDs, one FID using a Sample line of 47 deg C, and the other FID with a Sample line of 191 deg C.

*1 : The readings of the soot analyzer used in the MEXA-1230PM corresponds to surface area of particles in sample gas of unit volume. The mass concentration of soot in mg/m3 is obtained by multiplying the surface area value and an adjustable coefficient together. Dilution ratio of the soot diluter (1:160/800/1600) is also taken into account in this coefficient.

*2 : The HFIDs in the SOF analyzer are equipped with the sample lines which use different temperatures respectively. The difference of the concentration readings in ppmC of the HFIDs is multiplied by an adjustable coefficient for converting the readings into mass concentration in mg/m3.
