Real-time Soot Analyzer MEXA-1230Soot
Overview
- Measures direct raw or diluted exhaust samples
- Displays Soot as mg/m3 using an empirically derived conversion factor
The MEXA-1230Soot provides a real time measurement of Soot concentration in the exhaust to assist with your clean vehicle development programs.
It uses a highly sensitive detector based on the well proven Diffusion Charging (DC) principle which provides a wide range in conjunction with a stable heated dilution system for engine combustion analysis, ECU calibration and after-treatment development.
The main unit of the MEXA-1230Soot has been reduced in size from the MEXA-1230PM, which significantly improves the flexibility in a wide range of applications and test cell layouts.
Features
- High sensitivity measurement of Soot by DC method
- Wide range measuring capability
- Remote operation, controlled from host CPU via AK protocol
Soot is measured by a Diffusion Charging method
Sample is diluted with an ejector pump. Soot concentration is calculated by measuring the electrical current of ions attached onto the surface of charged particles.

Remarks
*1 : The readings of the Soot analyzer used in the MEXA-1230Soot corresponds to surface area of particles in sample gas of unit volume. The mass concentration of Soot in mg/m3 is obtained by multiplying the surface area value and an adjustable coefficient together. Dilution ratio of the Soot diluter (1:160/800/1600) is also taken into account in this coefficient.
