Colloid Stability
Two phase systems such as suspensions and emulsions where the dispersed phase is in the size range from 1 nm to 1 µm can be called colloids. As particle size decreases, surface area increases as a function of total volume. In the colloidal size range there is much interest in particle-particle interactions. Most colloidal commercial products are designed to remain in a stable condition for a defined shelf life. Both particle size and the charge on the surface are important physical characteristics that strongly influence colloid stability.

Particle Technology Activities
Particle technology can be considered the range of studies and industrial endeavors focused on the investigation and manufacturing of particle based products. Particle characterization is one component within the field of particle technology. Other segments that fall under the umbrella of particle technology include milling, fluidized bed and other particle formation operations, powder flow, and rheology just to name a few. This web page attempts to provide a broader view into the field of particle technology by providing summaries and links to associated organizations, meetings and educational activities.

Analytical Test Methods for Particle Size Standards
HORIBA customers should verify system performance on a regular basis using particle size standards. Generating optimum results is best achieved following our suggested Analytical Test Methods. A new section of our files for download now contains these Analytical Test methods for customer reference and use.
