Greetings from your friends at HORIBA Instruments!

Our March newsletter includes invitations to attend our seminar in Rockville, MD, our diffraction training course in Edison, NJ,  to visit our new web page on abrasives and to download new application notes. We are also happy to announce the appointment of our new Western Regional Manager, Torrey DeLuca.

Particle Characterization of Abrasives

Diamonds

The behavior of an abrasive material is influenced by the hardness, size, and shape of the particles. A harder particle will be more aggressive in altering the surface of the work piece. Larger particles generate higher impact force removing the material surface quicker and producing a heavier texture. Particle shape also plays a role. Particles with points and edges remove surface material on impact, while round particles without cutting edges are used to pound or “peen” a surface.

PSA300 Size and Shape Parameters Defined

PSA300 Size and Shape Parameters Defined

The PSA300 is our newest automated image system for measuring particle size and shape. This powerful software running the PSA300 defines particle size and shape using over a dozen different quantifiable parameters. Our new Technical Note AN150, Size and Shape Parameters Defined in the PSA300, describes the basis for all of these calculations.

Seminar in Rockville, MD

HORIBA Instruments and Microfluidics are hosting a free seminar on Thursday April 24 at the Ramada Inn in Rockville, MD. Topics covered include particle characterization and processing in the pharmaceutical industry from both the vendor and end user perspective.
