Greetings from your friends at HORIBA Instruments!

Our latest edition welcomes you to attend two webinars: the first about the CAMSIZER and the second about laser diffraction method development, then visit our new web page listing scientific papers that include data from our instruments, and download a new application note on using automated image analysis to measure pharmaceutical active ingredients. You can also read about our ongoing 2009 Academic Stimulus, Lunch and Learn, and Trade-In to Move-Up programs.

Webinar on the CAMSIZER Dynamic Image Analyzer

Please join us for a web-based seminar (or Webinar) Wednesday, August 12th at 1:30 PM Eastern (10:30 AM Pacific) introducing the CAMSIZER particle size and shape analyzer.

Many sizing techniques fail to account for the influence of particle shape. This leads to inaccurate size measurements which can result in poor control over your product. The CAMSIZER by Retsch Technology is the industry-leader in dynamic image analysis: capturing images of particles and reporting size and shape distributions. Gert Beckmann, CAMSIZER Product Manager from Retsch Technology, will give a short presentation followed by an interactive Q&A session. Topics covered include:

  • Introducing the CAMSIZER
  • Benefits of the two-camera system
  • Why image analysis?
  • Application overview
  • Your questions answered

As always, attending the webinar is free of charge and open to everyone.

Webinar on Laser Diffraction Method Development

Please join us for a webinar Wednesday, August 19th at 1:30 PM Eastern (10:30 AM Pacific) on how to implement a structured approach method development when using the laser diffraction technique. This is another lecture taken from the diffraction customer training courses, or “boot camps”. Topics covered include:

  • Pressure titrations for powder samples
  • How to determine the optimum use of ultrasound
  • Parameters requiring investigation including pump speed, measurement duration, and concentration
  • Automating methods once the optimization is completed

As always, attending the Webinar is easy and free of charge. We will be glad to help you understand how to attend.

Particle Size and Shape Analysis of APIs

Automated image analysis is rapidly replacing manual microscopy in those laboratories wanting unmatched sizing accuracy, resolution, and shape information coupled with the statistical confidence coming from inspecting thousands of particles. The most common application for static image analysis systems is currently the characterization of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Pharmaceutical laboratories around the world are investing in image analysis systems as a valuable tool for complete particle size and shape characterization for dosage forms including solid oral, aerosol and transdermal applications. This application note summarizes the reasons why static image analysis is becoming a popular technique for characterizing APIs.

The HORIBA Bibliography of Scientific Papers Including HORIBA PSA Data

This new web page presents a list of scientific papers where the author(s) used HORIBA particle size analysis (PSA) instruments during their research. Although this is not yet a comprehensive list, particle scientists may find papers here that are relevant to their own research. Many of the papers require either a subscription service or download fee, but others are available at no cost and no commitment.

University Customers: Discover the HORIBA PSA “Academic Stimulus” Program

The Particle Size Analysis (PSA) group within HORIBA Instruments announces a new, multi-faceted program to support existing customers and seek new users.

For New College/University Customers:
Through the end of 2009, the HORIBA PSA group will guarantee the best possible discount - up to 12% - to universities and academic centers in the United States.  Additionally, a free second year warranty will be included.

For our Existing College/University Customers:
We invite you and your advisor/grad students to submit an abstract for an application note showing data from a HORIBA PSA system. If your submission is approved, we will post the completed document on our global website and you’ll receive $500 and an iPod Nano to show our thanks.

If you would like to learn more about the HORIBA Academic Stimulus plan, click here to contact us directly.

Invitation to Participate in the HORIBA “Lunch and Learn” Seminar Series

Our new "Lunch and Learn" seminar series is designed to bring you valuable technical advice in a format that is fun, convenient, and informative. An expert from our Particle Size Analysis (PSA) team will present a one hour seminar during your lunch break while you enjoy lunch courtesy of HORIBA.

All you need to do is host the event in a conference room and invite any interested scientists. The topics offered in the seminar series include:

  • A Structured Approach to Particle Size Method Development
  • Size Analysis of Nano-Particles
  • Getting the Most From Your Laser Diffraction Particle Size Analyzer
  • Characterization of Geological Samples and Sediment
  • Particle Characterization in the Pharmaceutical Industry
