HORIBA, Ltd [Head office: Kyoto, President: Atsushi Horiba] (hereafter referred to as "HORIBA") has introduced an Integrated Management System (hereafter referred to as "IMS") which combines the management systems ISO9001 for quality, ISO14001 for environment and OHSAS18001 for occupational health and safety. The IMS was officially recognized as being an effective management system by the Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA) as of the 28th July, 2004.
OHSAS18001 was additionally combined with the already certified ISO9001 and ISO14001 into IMS and HORIBA is the first in the analysis and measuring industry in Japan to introduce IMS.
The IMS has been put into operation at the Head Office, the Head Factory, 12 domestic sales offices and 22 domestic service stations.

Integrated Management System (=IMS)

Management system is composed of integrated quality, environmental and occupational health and safety Management systems.
It carries out activities in an effective way, organically combining standards. The first of these is ISO 9001 for obtaining customers satisfaction. The second is ISO 14001 for corporate social responsibility and obtaining the satisfaction of interested parties. The third one is OHSAS18001 for obtaining the satisfaction of employees with a safe work environment provided, and other standards.

Specific Initiatives Taken
1. Integrated activities common to quality, environmental and health management systems to create-high-value-added, efficient business operations
2. Set policies and developed a Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) cycle for target and objective achievement
3. Introduced performance-based management
IMS policies, objectives and targets are based on management strategies and previous fiscal year results. To ensure employees work towards the same goal, we formulated a PDCA cycle. We conduct frequent monitoring and make modifications when necessary to facilitate continuous improvement.

Merits of New System
1. By integrating the three management systems into one, we have simplified the decision-making process.
2. Synergy in quality, environmental and safety activities make adjustments simple, enabling more appropriate judgments.
3. Document management, recording and creation have become easier, thereby increasing efficiency in administration.
4. Internal audits and external examinations keep management costs down.


Future Development

Since Corporate Social Responsibility (hereafter referred to as "CSR") is demanded from society, HORIBA will strive to strengthen its business management including various education at each worksite by introducing the IMS. Moreover, The IMS has enabled us to establish promptly a business management system for such issues as information security, which is becoming increasingly necessary.
HORIBA will continue to fulfill our CSR as a global enterprise through the IMS.
