At that time, it specialized in the sale and service of auto emissions testing equipment in North, Central, and South America. Since then, it has added design, development and manufacturing functions and currently has a local manufacturing ratio of approximately 80%. One example of the company's developmental activities is its exclusive chassis dynamometer, which is used in auto emissions testing and is now supplied throughout the world through the HORIBA Group. HORIBA Instruments is also actively involved in non-automotive fields. In 1991, it constructed a factory in Tempe, Arizona that is dedicated exclusively to the production of artificial crystals. All HORIBA Group operations related to crystal manufacturing are now concentrated in this facility, enabling the Group to supply the world with crystals that are indispensable for radiation-related medical treatments , as well as for research on elementary particles.
