Greetings from your friends at HORIBA Instruments!

Welcome to the July edition of the HORIBA Particle Technology Newsletter.

This month shows the introduction of our new flagship laser diffraction model to the market, the LA-950V2.  For readers considering laser diffraction analyzers, the new LA-950V2 range of analyzers deserves serious consideration.

And, if you are involved with paint, pigments and inks, be sure look for the newly published application notes.

Also, a number of application notes, case studies and product information have been added to our website for your review.  This library of useful technical information is located at www.horibalab.com.  We welcome you to visit and download the information you need.

New LA-950V2 Launch

The Partica LA-950V2 Laser Diffraction Particle Size Analyzer is the second generation of the revolutionary LA-950 system, retaining the unparalleled measurement performance of the previous version with a number of usability and sampling system upgrades. The result is a truly unparalleled system for particle size analysis for a wide range of user requirements. A thorough redesign of a number of components has enhanced the class-leading capabilities in speed, dynamic range and precision.

At the same time, a number of customer requests have been incorporated into the system design to make the sample system change even faster, improve sampling system accessibility, and broaden the range of accessories available. The Partica LA-950V2 is available in a number of different versions to optimize the system for specific user requirements.

New Pigment, Paint and Ink Applications Page

A broad collection of pigment, powder coatings, and ink products exist in particulate form in both the raw materials and finished products. The particle size distribution of these materials determines their appearance, quality, functionality and processability. These samples cover an extremely broad range of size distributions. HORIBA laser diffraction particle size analyzers have always been the system of preference in these industries. The Partica LA-950V2 system dynamic range of 10 nm – 3000 µm is uniquely flexible to measure everything from sub-micron pigments like carbon black and TiO2 to large organic pigment powders.

Application Note on Organic Pigments

Application Note on Organic Pigments Particle size is a critical physical characteristic of pigments, affecting many performance factors including gloss and tinctorial strength. Laser diffraction is the most popular method of particle size analysis for the milling process, allowing close control and optimization of a number of final product performance criteria. This application note explains why particle size is important and examples of measured pigments.

Tired of Time-consuming Sieve Testing?

Sieves provide basic particle size distribution information, but take considerable time and manual effort to produce the results. The CAMSIZER has successfully replaced sieve analysis in numerous labs around the world as a result of its ability to closely match historical data.  The use of digital image processing and advanced characterization algorithms allow for duplication of sieve results, with the payback of much faster sample analysis, increased data quality and dramatically greater resolution.

The additional abilities to generate particle shape information and particle images provides a wealth of additional data that can be used to closely monitor and control the production process.

With the automated analysis, replacement of sieve analysis and other manual methods has shown the CAMSIZER to pay for itself in as short as six months.
