HORIBA presents latest version of its Pitot Tube Flow Meter at Automotive Testing Expo Europe 2013

With the Pitot Tube Flow Meter PTFM-1000 V2, emissions testing specialist HORIBA introduces the second generation of exhaust gas flow rate measurement of combustion engines. The product is going to be exhibited at the 15th Automotive Testing Expo Europe 2013 in Stuttgart, Germany, from June 4 to June 6. The standalone interface uses the pitot tube principle with high-frequency transducers to measure exhaust flow with a sampling rate of 1kHz. This rapid capture rate allows dependable measurement of any pulsations or notable behaviour in an engine. In addition, the PTFM pitot tube’s design enables the measurement of reverse flows without any loss of sensitivity. It is compatible with diesel and gasoline engines as well as alternative fuel engines such as ethanol, propane or butane. Operational standalone with a laptop or integrated alongside an analyzer system, the interface offers simple handling without adding any steps to the test cycle process.

“The PTFM-1000 V2 provides a real-time display of exhaust flow solidly within the accuracy requirements of ISO 16183,” says Gary O’Brien, Product Development HORIBA UK Ltd. “It covers a large spectrum of applications, as it is easy to install and an efficient solution for exhaust gas flow rate measurement of both diesel and gasoline engines.”

One of several benefits the PTFM-1000 V2 offers is an automatic flow tube type detection, eliminating the need for additional input from the operator when a tube is changed. Furthermore it provides automated zero and purge sequences once integrated into a cell, non-invasive measurement with no tailpipe sample extraction, and multiple data output options. To ensure the best match for an engine’s given parameters and maximum accuracy, six sizes of flow tube attachments for flows of 2 to 65 m3 are available. Optional features include exhaust pipe connections and seals for high temperature operation up to 900°C instead of the standard 230°C, a sensor to measure tailpipe exhaust pressure, and an integrated tailpile sampling fitting.
