Workshop for Spectroscopy in Life Sciences organised by Jena Bio Chip Initiative (JBCI)

The workshop will focus on different applications of spectroscopy and laser in life science, with a special focus on the detection of surface bound biomolecules. The aim of the workshop is to bring researcher from academia and industry together to discuss recent results and present new findings in this field. Within the workshop there will be several live demonstration to show some applications of modern spectroscopy in life science.

10:00	Dr. Roland Seitz / Dr. Andreas Derwahl, HORIBA Scientific, Germany “Spectroscopic Techniques in the Life Sciences – an Overview” µ-XRF (X-ray fluorescence with10µm lateral resolution); application examples with biological samples Ellipsometry on bio-films, sub-monolayer thickness analysis GDOES etc.

11:00	Dr. Philippe Bado, Translume Inc., US: “Ultra-Short-Pulse Lasers and Microfluidics – Micromachining with Femtosecond Lasers”

13:00	Dr. Chiraz Frydman: “Surface Plasmon Resonance imaging –High Throughput Labelfree Interaction Studies” The study of bio-interactions plays a leading role in the modern life science lab. SPRi delivers a sensitivity, accuracy, throughput and performance that is needed by high throughput approaches. The presentation will focus on a basic introduction and give some application examples.
