HORIBA Group intends to enhance its Integrated Management System (IMS) for quality, environment, occupational health and safety and medical care and contribute to the realization of a “a life of content for all” through supplying products that make a contribution in terms of environment, health, safety and energy.

In April 2008, in a periodic review of the IMS that was carried out by the Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA), it was recognized that the system had been further improved and performance enhanced in the preceding four years of efforts.

(For details please refer to our CSR report Gaiareport 2008. Besides, the IMS operating certificate is attached at the end of this document).

There follows an explanation of our efforts to deploy this IMS to group companies and thereby strengthen our foundations as a global corporation.

Results Concerning Objectives and Targets in Fiscal 2007

In fiscal 2007, departments and divisions implementing activities conducted PDCA at short intervals in order to attain 12 IMS targets, and internal audits and management reviews concerning the progress and results of these were carried out every three months.

To indicate the outputs during this year, the rate of achievement of IMS targets is shown in a radar chart. There are still some issues that need to be overcome and we will strive to make more balanced efforts geared to improving quality and occupational health and safety and thereby realizing our corporate social responsibility and “One Company” management.

(Quality) Delivery compliance: 100%; Loss from returned products: 80%; Process errors: 100%; (Environment) Eco-friendly design in new products: 90%; Prohibited harmful chemical substances: 90%; CO2 reductions: 100%; (Safety) Work accidents: 50%

Integrated Management System Policy, Objectives and Targets in Fiscal 2008

The policy, objectives and targets for fiscal 2008, while basically following on from the contents of the previous year, have been set with a view to providing further satisfaction to customers, and more balanced efforts are being advanced in the areas of quality, environment, occupational health and safety and medicine.

IMS promotion in fiscal 2008 will be based on the following principles:

  1. Construction of the HORIBA brand quality with high reliability
  2. Expansion of the product environmental conformance rate and adherence to laws and regulations in Japan and overseas
  3. Thorough enforcement of occupational health and safety getting back to basics
  4. IMS deployment to group companies in Japan and overseas

For further detail, concerning the IMS policy, objectives and targets for fiscal 2008, see Gaiareport 2008 pages 30-31.

Promotion of IMS through Enhancement of Internal Audits and Improvement in the Capacity of Internal Auditors

We believe that the key to improving IMS lies in enhancing internal audits and improving the capacity of internal auditors. In fiscal 2007, internal audits were implemented in 60 departments and divisions of our company with the following two objectives:

  1. To confirm that work is being done in accordance with laws and regulations, and
  2. To evaluate the effective implementation of activities and improvement in performance

Last year, all newly appointed managers were designated as internal auditors, and the opinions of top management were reflected in audits. We will continue to raise the capacity of our internal auditors and further enhance the management system from now on.

IMS Deployment in Domestic and Overseas Group Companies

As part of its “One Company” management approach, the HORIBA Group is planning the establishment and operation of a Group IMS in 2010.

In line with this initiative, group companies in Japan and the rest of the world are striving to acquire ISO certification as the foundation on which to operate IMS.
