High resolution mapping of voxels at 5 microns depth from surface, written in an Er:Yb codoped LiNb03 laser crystal with a femtosecond laser.

The extended microfabrication of an fcc structure inside the bulk laser crystals leads to 3D photonic crystals with new capabilities for controlling the spontaneous luminescence and laser properties of the rare earth ions.
