Happy New Year from your friends at HORIBA Instruments!

Our January newsletter welcomes you to download the two new application notes on Particle Size Analysis of Liposomes and Particle Characterization of Sugar, attend our pharmaceutical seminar in the Boston area on February 25th, and attend our first Webinar on Image Analysis in the Pharmaceutical Industry on February 17th.

Liposomes

Liposomes

Liposomes are bilayer vesicles made of phospholipids derived from natural or man-made materials. They are mainly used in the pharmaceutical field for treatment of cancers as carriers of chemotherapeutic drugs to tumor area. The amount of drug loaded in to the liposomes and the size of liposomes play pivotal roles in the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters of the drug. Hence accurate and rapid measurement of the size of liposomes is essential for novel and effective drug delivery systems.

Sugar

Sugar

For much of the world, sugar holds a high place as a basic food commodity.  Although our mental image of sugar might leap to packets and jars, sugar enters our diet primarily through its addition into other foods.  These food manufacturers will want to maintain a specific flavor profile and texture for the finished product.  The sugar particle size and particle shape directly affect the taste (flavor) and mouthfeel (texture) of the food product.  Sugar buyers often require that the manufacturers provide some particle analysis for this reason.

Pharmaceutical Seminar in Newton, MA on February 25

Pharmaceutical Seminar in Newton, MA

HORIBA, Microfluidics, and Fluid Imaging will host a free joint seminar on Wednesday, February 25th in Newton, MA at the Microfluidics headquarters. Topics will include particle size reduction, characterization, and setting multifunctional nanosystems for targeted drug and gene delivery. Morning technical sessions will be followed by lunch and optional afternoon instrument and process equipment demonstrations.

Invitation to the Pharmaceutical Seminar.

Webinar on Image Analysis in the Pharmaceutical Industry on February 17

Image Analysis in the Pharmaceutical Industry

Please join us for our first web-based seminar(or Webinar) Tuesday, February 17th on how image analysis is being used in the pharmaceutical industry. This presentation was given at the recent AAPS meeting in Atlanta, GA and covers topics including:

  • Static image analysis
  • Dynamic image analysis
  • Regulatory issues
  • Applications
  • System verification

Attending the Webinar is easy and free of charge. We will be glad to help you understand how to attend.
