Cost Accountant

Our shared services accounting team is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to join our team in Irvine, CA. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and expertise in performing cost accounting functions requiring thorough knowledge of cost accounting methods, principles and practices.  Computes unit cost of company products or services and establishes cost standards and evaluates business cost processes for opportunities for improvements.   Provides assistance to the general accounting function as necessary.

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Ability to streamline functions and passion to learn and grow
  • Comfort dealing with ambiguity and the ability to work independently
  • Grow financial performance through analysis of financial results, budget, forecasts, variances and trends
  • Create recommendations for improvement and optimization to be presented to management and executives
  • Develop standard unit costs for manufactured goods to include direct materials, labor and overhead
  • Establish cost of business processes such as administration, labor and shipping
  • Perform analysis of product and project costs including material variances and labor efficiencies
  • Identify areas of concern/ opportunity and recommend corrective actions
  • Perform physical inventory count reconciliations
  • Assist in month end general ledger close and prepare journal entries
  • Develop financial system improvements/ upgrades/ controls
  • Evaluate process deficiencies, formulate corrective action plans, and develop process improvements and/or procedural controls while leveraging systems and relationships with others within the organization
  • Prepared detailed reports, both periodically and ad-hoc
  • Conduct comparable analysis and market research to support internal financial analysis
  • Support financial reviews and audits conducted by independent auditors

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • 3+ years of cost accounting, general accounting and/ or business finance experience with progressive responsibilities, especially with exposure to international operations and a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/ Finance/ Economics
  • Solid knowledge of general and cost accounting principles and practices
  • Strong quantitative, analytical and data gathering competency
  • SAP FI/CO experience preferred
  • Self-starter with good interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
