Biological Thrombophilia in 2021: State of the art

23/02/2021
Presented by Professor Pierre-Emmanuel Morange, Head of the Department of Haematology at the University Hospital Timone, Marseille / Professor of Haematology in the Faculty of Medicine at the Aix-Marseille University

Venous thromboembolic disease (VTE) is a frequent and potentially serious pathology since it is the third leading cause of cardiovascular mortality. It is currently accepted that environmental and genetic factors act together to induce this pathology. It is therefore referred to as a complex pathology. To date, five constitutional abnormalities of the coagulation cascade are known to promote VTE: three deficiencies in coagulation inhibitors, antithrombin (AT), protein C (PC), protein S (PS) and two genetic variants’ located respectively on the genes for factors V and II, factor V Leiden and G20210A. These five abnormalities constitute the classic 'thrombophilia check-up' (constitutional) recommended by learned societies. The aim of this webinar is to review the indications in 2021 for this thrombophilia assessment and to put into perspective its future evolution.

 Duration: 75 minutes (55 min presentation + 20 min Q&A)

Document: Hemostasis Guide will be introduced in this webinar.
