GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under general supervision of the PLM, provides technical support (hardware and software) for product engineers.

Act as a liaison between engineering, material control and manufacturing to expedite processes and resolve issues.

Install electrical, electromechanical, and plumbing components, route and terminate wirings, and assemble parts to form analyzers or subassemblies at a bench or on the floor.

Perform QA of lab equipment, accessories, and computer systems for shipment and in-house use.   Responsible for testing, organizing, and tracking lab equipment, including lifting and packing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in generating and modifying bill of materials and engineering change orders using SAP.  
  • Assist in creating and modifying user/service manuals for products.
  • Supports engineering staff with testing of products or systems both at HORIBA and at customer sites.
  • Supports sales by running customer samples and evaluating instrument suitability.
  • Supports material control in creating and modifying part number information or vendor/material selection.
  • Process product orders in regards to documentation and bill of materials.  Follow through with products until they are built, assisting engineering with electrical and mechanical assembly on custom engineering projects.
  • Works from detailed assembly drawings and specifications; plans layouts using flowcharts; identifies and obtains necessary parts and components from the stockroom.
  • Installs mechanical components; forms and connects Teflon, Tygon, or stainless steel tubing using hand and bench power tools, torsion wrenches, forming jigs, and assembly fixtures.
  • Assembles and attaches hardware, such as caps, clamps, knobs, and switches to assemblies.
  • Access parts information and requirements through the company ERP system (SAP).
  • Performs QA on Lab Product Analyzers and computer systems; maintains all QA files.
  • Supports lab staff by lifting, and setting up analyzers.
  • Maintains tracking documentation on analyzers and lab equipment (e.g., tools, parts, and carts).
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe lab environment, including disposal of hazardous organic waste.
  • Other miscellaneous tasks as required.

Interfaces with engineering, manufacturing, sales, and operation staffs.

DECISION-MAKING AND PROBLEM-SOLVING:

Under general supervision, resolves problems within clearly defined practices and procedures.   Resolution of various technical issues and problems commensurate with the level of expertise, knowledge, and training.   Makes independent judgments regarding routing of inquiries and dissemination of information.  Refers to complex or unusual issues to engineering staff or management.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge Of:

Requires attention to detail and knowledge of internal operations, policies, procedures, and products.   Requires working knowledge of engineering documentation.  Experience working with technical data in an engineering environment is typically gained through a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.  Also requires strong organizational, interpersonal, presentation, and verbal/written communication skills.  PC literate.  Must be able to lift 50 lbs. The incumbent typically has a minimum of three years of related experience.

  1. Ability to analyze and effectively respond to complex technical questions.
  2. Ability to perform and interpret test results.
  3. Ability to QA products in an efficient and timely manner.
  4. Five years of experience in lab, engineering, or equivalent experience.
  5. Ability to efficiently maintain accurate records and disseminate paperwork and all equipment is accounted for.
  6. Ability to efficiently and precisely install components, hardware, and wiring.
  7. Ability to safely handle hazardous materials; maintain a safe and clean lab environment.
  8. Ability to work with multiple groups in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Ability to effectively communicate within Horiba departments.
