  • Normal values : Absent in the blood
  • Description / Pathology :

    Also known as burr cells.

    RBC with crenate borders (sea urchin-shape), covered with short blunt projections or spicules of fairly regular form.

    As an artefact, they can be the results of improper smear on a slide, because of blood sample aging.

    Their presence can be obeserved in electrolytic disorders, kidney or liver damage, pyruvate kinase deficiency, decompression accidents, burning.
