Adding Enhanced Darkfield Hyperspectral Microscopy to Raman Microscopy for Nanoparticle Research

Raman microscopy is a powerful tool to characterize a wide range of nanomaterials developed for biological and materials- based applications. These include theranostic applications, such as nano drug delivery and nano biosensors, as well as materials science applications in areas such as photovoltaics.

Enhanced darkfield hyperspectral microscopy (coined as EDF-HSI) excels at rapid detection of nanomaterials down to 10 nm - 20 nm in both biological and materials matrices. Hyperspectral imaging captures an optical spectrum at every point of a high spatial resolution image, providing complimentary spectral confirmation to Raman spectra.

To take advantage of both technologies, HORIBA has teamed with CytoViva, Inc. to integrate enhanced darkfield hyperspectral microscopy units onto its Raman microscope platform. The combined system is capable of performing co-localized analysis of nanomaterials.
