Laboratory Automation Systems (LAS) is a multi-disciplinary strategy to research, develop and optimize on technologies in the laboratory that enable new and improved processes. The aim of laboratory automation is to increase productivity, reduce lab process cycle time with an optimized quantity of human resources and without compromising on quality.  The most widely known laboratory application are around laboratory robotics. It includes automated stand alone instruments, tracking systems (TLA, Disciplines chain…), integrated modules (barcode, rotator…), softwares (middleware …) and methodologies to increase the effectiveness in laboratories.

The laboratory automation is also linked to a well known approach : the LEAN. It is a customer centric methodology used to continuously improve any process through the elimination of waste in everything.

The most important benefits of automation are the optimization of Full Time Equivalent (FTE) in automatizing the low added value tasks in labs, the creation of smoothed workflow process, the reduction of Turn Around Time (TAT) and the increase of employee safety.
