The latest emission legislations include for example Euro 6 for the European Union (EU), Tier3 and LEV III for the USA as well as China 6 for China. In order to comply with these emission legislations, it is necessary to test the vehicle on the chassis dynamometer with the corresponding driving cycles, which vary depending on the legislation. In the field of light-duty vehicles efforts have been made to harmonize the currently existing variety of test cycles. The result is the WLTP (Worldwide harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure), which was developed in a cooperative effort by experts from the Europe and Asia. The future goal is to simplify vehicle testing procedures by establishing the WLTP as the only test procedure for light-duty vehicles worldwide.
