HORIBA is a global group of companies that develops, manufacturers and provides an extensive array of analytical and measurement equipment to countries around the world. HORIBA is seeking an Applications Scientist to manage the company's busy Scientific Applications Laboratory for sample running and demonstrations of its range of analytical and spectroscopic instrumentation, including (but not limited to) Raman spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), fluorescence spectroscopy and particle characterisation.
Contribute to new sales through product demonstrations and customer sample analysis and the provision of demonstration/analysis reports.
Ensure that customer demonstrations and sample analyses are scheduled, carried out and reported in a timely, efficient and professional manner.
Ensure health and safety and regulatory compliance for all laboratory activity.
Attend conferences and exhibitions, and actively contribute through scientific and commercial presentations, lectures and workshops.
Contribute to the development of marketing documents such as application notes, case studies, white papers, journal articles etc.
Contribute to the customer training programme, focussing on advanced training covering high level hardware/software functionality and sample-specific applications advice.
Contribute to internal training programmes through expertise in the products and their application.
Assist the Regional Product Management team to develop sales tools, arguments and competitive product analysis for the sales team.
Engage with customers to identify new applications of HORIBA's technology, and report such applications to business development and product management teams.
Support engineers to resolve technical problems, particularly those requiring high-level product and applications knowledge.
Support HORIBA UK's activities to establish a vibrant network of product users across the UK and Ireland.
PhD or advanced degree in physical sciences (or undergraduate degree in physical sciences coupled with extensive experience in a similar commercial applications scientist role).
An excellent understanding of Raman spectroscopy/microscopy instrumentation and its applications.
Excellent communication skills both in a one-to-one (or one-to-few) contexts and in public speaking roles (such as scientific conferences).
Full driving license and willingness to travel across the UK and Ireland with some overnight stays.
Ability to travel to France/Japan/USA centres of excellence on an occasional basis.
2+ years' experience in commercial applications laboratory activities in a global business environment relating to industrial / scientific instruments.
Knowledge of fluorescence spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and/or particle characterisation instrumentation and their application.
