Key Responsibilities:

  • Typically leads a technical design team while executing several complex and demanding assignments such as developing advanced electrical designs and schematics for test and machine systems that may involve sophisticated proprietary automation and control systems, electro-mechanical equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems..    
  • Provides technical guidance to project team regarding variable frequency drive sizing, power quality issues, and induction/PM motor specifications
  • Develops specifications based on testing requirements for new equipment or applications under development by HORIBA.  This may include conceptual design, detailed product design, verification and validation test plans. 
  • Ensures conformance to standards such as NEC, UL, IEC, IEEE, NFPA and OSHA to product and system design. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ideal candidate will have a Masters in Electrical Engineering; Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Strong knowledge of AC Adjustable Drive Systems based on induction, synchronous motors (including standard excitation and permanent magnet machines). Understanding specifics of inverter duty motor design including requirements to motor insulation solutions. Ability to correctly select/size the motor to match the load and VFD parameters. Ability to calculate various duty cycle loading conditions.
  • In-depth knowledge of Power Electronics and Power Conversion Technology including high voltage/high power applications. Understanding and working knowledge of converter duty drive isolation transformers and reactors design/selection and specifications development.
  • Working knowledge of power distribution systems and its major components, ability to develop and understand one line diagrams. Ability to calculate short circuit currents within VFD system using per-unit design methods. Understanding and working knowledge of Arc Flash Analysis.
  • Experience with Power Quality issues and their mitigation. Ability to develop specific requirements to power distribution system due to usage of non-linear loads like VFD systems. Specifics of using multi-drive dynamometer systems and high order harmonics interaction. Basic knowledge of harmonic filters application/structure/design.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Ensures conformance to standards such as NEC, UL, IEC, IEEE, and NFPA to product and system design.
