HORIBA speeds up e-mobility

|   Press Release

HORIBA presents new Raman spectroscope XploRa series at its Electrification corner & new dynamometers series DYNAS3 High Speed supports development of electric motors and hybrid vehicles.

HORIBA, a leading supplier for emission measurement and automotive test systems, introduces its newest technologies and applications within its Electrification business at this year´s Automotive Testing Expo Europe 2017. The new products serve the development of hybrids and electric driving thereby significantly contributing to the progress of e-mobility. At its booth in hall 1, stand 1512, HORIBA will showcase the advanced and future-oriented dynamometers series DYNAS3 High Speed (HS) for dynamic engine and powertrain testing as well as its XploRA Raman microscope series for fast and non-destructive chemical micro-analysis of batteries.

With the increasing demand for hybrid and electric vehicles, the battery industry has experienced exceptionally high growth. The emergent industry has led to the development of new batteries which again has resulted in increased requirements for control of processes and performance data.

Raman microscopy at its best: HORIBA XploRA Raman series

For the first time, HORIBA Scientific will join the exhibition appearance at Europe´s leading trade fair for the automotive testing industry. The scientific segment of HORIBA is well-known for the development, manufacturing and distribution of devices for the characterization of materials meeting the high requirements of the battery industry. The world market leader in Raman microscopy as well as other spectroscopic analysis techniques counts over 3,000 installed systems in Germany. Raman microscopy is one of the most important methods for the analysis of battery components and provides chemical identification and determination of crystallinity on spot. HORIBA´s fully automated XploRA Raman series meets the demanding challenges of any modern quality assurance (QA), quality control (QC) and analytical laboratory, while offering simplicity, exceptional sensitivity and reliability. The destruction-free application furthermore allows automated high definition Raman chemical imaging.

“Our solutions for the e-mobility market help customers to cope with the newest and increasingly demanding industry requirements,” says Torsten Bodsch, Product Manager Engine, Productline ECP. “We offer full-service solutions from investigating chemical properties of the battery cell to test stands for the complete electric vehicle.”

High speed e-mobility solution: HORIBA DYNAS3 (HS) series

At its Electrification corner, HORIBA will furthermore introduce the new DYNAS3 High Speed (HS) series for high speed applications such as light- and medium duty electric motors or hybrid vehicles. The e-mobility solution has recently been complemented by the two new dynamometers HS150 and HS210, delivering a rated power of up to 210 kW and covering a wide range of testing options.

“Our DYNAS3 High Speed (HS) series is universally suited to all steady-state, transient and dynamic testing applications and is intended for the development and testing of engines and powertrain assemblies,” Torsten Bodsch elaborates. “With our cutting-edge solution, we support our customers developing both economical and environmentally friendly engines while cutting costs and reducing development timescales.”

HORIBA´s DYNAS3 High Speed (HS) series is designed for speeds of up to 20,000 rpm and the high starting torques of electric motors. It offers a reliable and long-term solution with highest torque measurement accuracy and a high acceleration rate due to low inertia.

Another feature at the booth will be the demonstration of HORIBA´s VULCAN as well as the exposition of the Free Spinning Wheel Solution for powertrain test stands. Both test stand solutions have been specifically designed for highly accurate force and speed measurement as well as steady state and dynamic behavior analysis at the vehicle level.
