Edison, USA (1986 - Instruments SA Inc.)

In 1986, Instruments SA Inc. moved to Olsen Avenue in Edison, less than one mile from the Park Avenue SPEX facility. In 1988, SPEX was purchased by the French company, Jobin Yvon SA, through its US affiliate, Instruments SA Inc. At that time, Instruments SA Inc. had 88 employees and SPEX had 200 employees. In 1990, Neil Stein became the president of Instruments SA. By 1991, SPEX Industries Inc. was merged into Instruments SA Inc.
Instruments SA Inc. started scientific detectors, based upon CCDs, in 1992. In 1994, the Company sold its reference materials and sample preparation sides of the business to increase the focus on its spectroscopy business.
