Floor Maintenance to Maintain the Beauty of the Space

The appearance, interior, and beauty of a store or facility affect the number of customers drawn in and products sales; therefore, these exert a great impact on the store or facility. Usually, floors are cleaned or waxed regularly to maintain their beauty. Conventionally, the effects of such cleaning work are checked in a visual inspection performed by inspectors, but due to differences in judgment among individual inspectors, the criteria for the effects are naturally vague. In such gloss management during floor maintenance, HORIBA's gloss checker is a helpful tool for converting such vagueness into numerical values.

Issues

When gloss management of floors relies upon visual inspection, the criteria for judgment are vague due to differences in individual perceptions as well as the impact of climate, lighting, and so on.

HORIBA's Gloss Checker Realizes Numerical Management

By introducing HORIBA's gloss checker, clear management based on figures can be implemented instead of vague management based on human judgment.

Case Studies

Old, degraded, and altered wax must be removed. In this case, a stripping solution is evenly applied to the floor to lift the wax from the floor, after which the wax is removed from the floor by the polisher, and then dirty water is collected by a vacuum. Finally, the floor is cleaned with water and dried.

Some points of the dried floor are measured, and if there is a point at which the wax has not been sufficiently removed (the glossiness is higher than other points), wax removal is performed again.

A wax mop is used to apply resin wax evenly without leaving any points where wax has not been applied. The floor is fully dried using a fan, etc.

The glossiness after applying two layers of wax is 43.9. This is significantly higher than the value measured after removing the wax.

A cleaning solution is evenly applied to the floor, the floor is cleaned by a polisher, and the dirty water is collected by a vacuum. The floor is cleaned with water as necessary and dried, and then wax is applied to the floor and the floor is dried again.

The floor's glossiness will further increase if the floor is regularly coated with maintenance wax.
