Gustave Ribaud's pyrometer (1931)

Founder of the pyrometry laboratory at the Faculty of Sciences in Strasbourg, Gustave Ribaud developed an optical pyrometer for industrial use. This instrument remotely measures the temperature of a hot object or flame by comparing its brightness with a calibrated filament. In particular, it has been used to determine the temperature in petroleum distillation furnaces.
