Guy Pieuchard and Jean Flamand’s Holographic gratings (1968)

As part of their collaboration with astrophysicist Antoine Labeyrie, Jobin Yvon engineers Guy Pieuchard and Jean Flamand created a diffraction grating using a holographic process to replace the diffraction grating obtained by an etching process that was used worldwide at the time. This new type of manufacturing process made it possible to produce gratings with densities of up to 4,200 grooves per millimeter—considered impossible just a few years earlier.
