OEM Engineer Manager

Presently, our HORIBA Scientific OEM Division is searching for an experienced Engineering Manager, a growth-oriented position potentially leading to an Engineering Director level. This leader will drive the team in servicing high-volume industrial customers and contribute to the next generation of light detection devices including camera and spectroscopy products for our North American operation located in Piscataway, New Jersey.  The ideal candidate will possess strong experience extending across multi-disciplinary boundaries in a fast-paced, highly technical product development environment and will be responsible for the implementation of the engineering and development activities of new and existing products, providing leadership, technical oversight as well as problem-solving capabilities.

The OEM Engineering Manager/Director will require a solid understanding of the complete product development process from feasibility to the concept through field-deployed maintenance garnered by years of pertinent true hands-on design experience related to highly reliable instrumentation products, analytical instruments, and/or related embedded control systems.

Qualifications: 

  • 100% On-Site Full-Time position
  • Advanced degree preferred in Electrical Engineering or Photonics Engineering with 15+ years of experience related to managing a multi-disciplined team.
  • Pertinent true hands-on design experience related to high volume/reliability instrumentation products, analytical instruments, and/or related embedded control systems.
  • Willing to consider candidates with a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering with 20+ years of appropriate experience as outlined herein.

 

Requirements:  

  • Successful track record of product design experience at the component or system level related to highly reliable field-deployed data acquisition instrumentation with specialization in 1 or 2 of the following areas: spectroscopy, imaging, optomechanical designs for Photonics, CCD / CMOS sensors and cameras, on-board image processing, and deep vacuum technology.
  • Experience managing a multi-disciplined technical team in a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Leadership proficiency with respect to efficiently running concurrent complex and moderate-sized product development efforts involving hardware, firmware, software, optics and mechanics.
  • Proven project level contingency planning capability to mitigate risk associated with product design requirements, costing and/or delivery dates.
  • Strong background in estimating project and product cost along with efficient elapsed time projections.
  • Experience with all phases of the Design Control process including Engineering Change Order / Notice generation.
  • Exemplary verbal / written communication skills including proficiency in PPT presentations.
  • Adept in the areas of regulatory compliance, product infrastructure testing logistics for volume manufacturing and analytical (MTBF, FMEA), and testing (HALT) exercises to validate/ensure product reliability. 
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of management within the organization, as well as, customers and suppliers with respect to new product development, field-deployed product anomalies, and supply chain issues.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership in the application of existing, new, and advanced engineering concepts, principles, and processes, as they relate to product development efforts.
  • Interpret customer requirements for generating technical proposals/specifications, project costing, and product development plans accordingly.
  • Contribute to the acquisition of new and emerging business opportunities by helping to develop structured plans (including multiplexing of staff) in the presence of ongoing product development efforts.
  • Provide information on a regular basis to internal and external customers (including upper management) with respect to project progress, as well as, cost (engineering hours, product cost estimations in various volumes) and completion aspects.
  • Implement dynamic project/ product contingency planning (when required) to keep ongoing development aspects related to time, money, and quality on track.
  • Address potential issues proactively and apply real-time problem-solving skills to achieve prompt resolution. Continually address improvement opportunities.
  • Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values.
