With the progress of highly and fully automated vehicles new and complex test challenges arise in the market. In respect to reduce accidents vehicles have to be tested thoroughly.
To ensure functional robustness and safety of an increasing number of environmental sensors such as LiDAR, RADAR, camera it is necessary to test those in different stages according to state-of-the-art test procedures. One method is the EMC testing with operating ADAS functionalities. In respect to an universal approach of testing of ADAS/AD sensors embedded in vehicles there is currently no consensus among experts. One option is testing on a proving ground another is the laboratory conditions approach, both providing individual benefits.

HORIBA and TÜV Rheinland explain how vehicles are tested under specific conditions that enables the sensors to reveal their capabilities by combining the proving ground and laboratory testing approaches.
