Manufacturing Engineer

Essential Job Functions:

The successful candidate will be responsible for manufacturing engineering work, including spectrometers with CCD or CMOS cameras, grating assemblies, light source alignment, and optical optimization, as well as working alongside Lead Product Engineers to release new products to Manufacturing and conceiving automated tests (spectral resolution/dynamic range/noise levels, etc.)

  • Lead/support the release of new products from R&D/Engineering to Manufacturing
  • Assembly/testing of prototypes and ramp-up volumes for design optimization, prior to release to Manufacturing
  • Document the manufacturing process with procedures and work instructions
  • Daily support of manufacturing lines, including analyzing data, troubleshooting, root cause analysis of failures on instruments in the manufacturing floor and/or customer returns
  • Development and assembly of test fixtures, optimization and validation
  • Training of manufacturing technicians on new product releases and on changes to existing processes
  • Qualification and validation of new processes/products and of changes made in manufacturing (materials, processes, test equipment, etc.) Statistical analysis of data and presentation of findings and conclusions (written and/or verbal reports, presentations) to customers, engineering and management
  • Customer interfacing to support business; presentations of statistically validated changes to process/materials/equipment; technical support of sales team when needed.

 

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Master’s Degree preferred in Mechanical, Optical, Electronics, Electro-Mechanical, or related  Engineering discipline
  • 5+ years in Manufacturing Engineering role, industrialization, and/or qualification/testing programs
  • Experience in statistical analysis and SPC
  • Experience with spectrometers, optics, and/or spectroscopy
  • Knowledge of Pro-E (preferred) or Solidworks
  • Knowledge of Imaging sensors is a plus
  • Experience programming in Excel Visual Basic, Access, LabView, C-Sharp or MATLAB is a plus
  • Outstanding analytical, math, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong ability to prepare presentations to illustrate and communicate plans and results effectively, to peers, management, and customers.
  • Leadership and teamwork skills. Ability to work under pressure.
  • Solid time management skills. Ability to concentrate on meeting objectives and performance. Flexibility and ability to multi-task several priorities when encountering evolving business goals.
