Workshop Description:

Sponsored by HIMaC2 and HORIBA, this FREE introductory two-day, in-person, workshop offers the basics of Raman and X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy. The course features a combination of lectures and personalized hands-on training sessions by Dr. Sergey Mamedov and Dr. Peng Miao, Raman/XRF Applications Scientists at HORIBA.

Day 1 (Oct. 30) is focused on XRF. Topics will include:

  • Principle of Energy Dispersive XRF (EDXRF)
  • EDXRF Microscope and Sample Preparation
  • Quantification in XRF
  • XRF Hyperspectral Imaging
  • XRF for Battery and Fuel Cells
  • Hands-on Training Sessions*

Day 2 (Oct. 31) is focused on Raman. Topics will include:

  • Fundamentals of Raman spectroscopy
  • Fundamentals of Raman Instrumentation
  • Raman Hyperspectral Imaging
  • Raman Data Analysis
  • Raman for Battery and Fuel Cells
  • Hands-on Training Sessions*

Hands-on demonstration and training in the afternoon will be conducted each day in the Analytic Laboratory (AL), following the morning lectures. You must attend the AM session to be considered for that day’s hands-on session.

Lunch is provided for those who will attend the hands-on training in the afternoon. We are offering 5 hands-on sessions per day, each for 45 minutes.

*Due to the limited number of seats, there will only be 3-4 people per session, and only two people per organization or research group for those sessions. Registering for the hands-on training is for an application only and does not guarantee a slot. The organizers from HIMaC2 and HORIBA will review all applications, and let the individuals know 1 week before the event if they have a slot for the hands-on training in the afternoon.
