Built by Amédée Jobin according to the instructions of Jules Macé de Lépinay, director of the Physical Sciences Laboratory at the Faculty of Sciences of Marseille, this optical system makes it possible to identify the polarization state of a light beam. It measures the optical rotation power of liquid substances and the birefringence of solids, such as a quartz blade. The measurements are accurate because it retains its sensitivity, even when used with different monochromatic radiation values.
