HORIBA: Tell me about your dreams through this factory.

Mr. Miyashita: I am considering the possibility of using the Internet to expand our sales channels. So, I am currently taking on the challenge of producing lettuce that has distinctive advantages worthy of advertising nationally.
It is generally recommended to eat 350 grams of vegetables per day. However, vegetables grown in poor soil may lack vitamins and minerals. Therefore, how one puts nutrients into vegetables is crucial. Healthy food prevents illness. Human beings must maintain their health through food. Producing food products that contain appropriate nutrients and properly disclosing nutritional information to advertise products’ advantages—that is the mission of a plant factory. My dream, therefore, is to use our factory to produce Japan’s No. 1 lettuce, which is delicious and high in sugar content, contains few bacteria, and is higher in mineral content than any other lettuce.

HORIBA: Such lettuce will meet the needs of people of all generations.

Mr. Miyashita: We have applied to register the “Friendly Lettuce” trademark, which announces that our lettuce is friendly to the body and to all people, including patients suffering from kidney disease as well as children and seniors.
I have also made it a goal to generate high profits and provide employment to residents of my community. At present, we still have problems to overcome, but if the time arrives when we can make greater profits, I would like to invite many people to join us and to create franchises in order to expand our plant factory’s production. In preparation for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement, we are also looking forward to exporting our products.

HORIBA: Do you have any requests for HORIBA?

Mr. Miyashita: I have asked HORIBA’s salespeople to make equipment that can measure magnesium ion concentrations. I would be happy to serve as a monitor.
