Greetings from your friends at HORIBA Instruments!

Our latest newsletter welcomes you to explore new webinars on physical stability analysis and petroleum applications, download the Method Expert white paper, and to download the new application note about ointments and creams.

We also tell you how to find us at WCPT6 in a few weeks and announce the next Laser Diffraction "Boot Camp" training course. Finally, we'll take a look at how HORIBA's particle detection technology is being used in automotive exhaust testing.

Webinar: Discover the Reference Technology for Physical Stability Analysis of Emulsions and Suspensions

Please join us for our web-based seminar (or Webinar) Thursday, April 8th at 10 AM Eastern with repeat at 1 PM Eastern (10 AM Pacific) on a powerful technique using multiple light scattering to analyze the stability of concentrated dispersions without dilution. The Turbiscan technique is up to 200 times faster than visual tests!

Topics covered include:

  • Background information on physical stability
  • How does the Turbiscan concept work?
  • Applications for the Turbiscan including cosmetic, food, pharmaceutical, and petroleum industries

As always, attending the Webinar is easy and free of charge. We will be glad to help you understand how to attend.

Webinar: Particle Characterization Applications for the Petroleum Industry

Join us on Wednesday, April 14th at 1 PM Eastern (10:00 AM Pacific) for a webinar presentation about particle characterization solutions for various petroleum-based applications. Particle size, particle shape, and product stability all play a critical role in the final quality of many applications. We will discuss how advanced particle detection technologies have solved quality issues and improved product performance.

Topics covered include:

  • Why is particle size and stability important for petroleum products?
  • Relevant particle characterization technologies
  • Applications including crude oil, asphalt emulsions, drilling fluids and proponents

White Paper: Introducing the Method Expert

The Method Expert software designed by HORIBA provides the user with an intuitive guide to building robust methods. Designed with the user's experience in mind, the Method Expert automates many necessary tests which can be tedious and poorly understood. Expert advice is then provided so that the user may choose the best possible value. The end result is an automatically created "sequence" which can be accessed at any time for one-button measurement.

Application Note: Particle Characterization of Ointments and Creams

Ointments and creams used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry may contain solid particles and/or emulsion droplets. Analyzing these particles in the final product is currently performed by manual microscopy or automated image analysis. Automated image analysis has the benefits of quickly measuring thousands of particles and reporting both particle size and shape distribution results. This study utilizes the PSA300 automated image analysis system to quantify the size and shape of various ointments and creams.

HORIBA offers a wide range of analytical technologies beyond particle characterization. Many of our customers are also interested in some of these other techniques.

Particle detection is a core technology for HORIBA with advanced designs used in multiple industries for multiple purposes. One application of the detection technology is in automotive test systems like the MEXA-1000 SPCS. This instrument and others like it measure the particle mass and particle number of airborne particulates from engine exhaust.
