Ellipsometers
NanoCharm
NanoCharm (Multifunctional NanoMaterials Characterization exploiting Ellipsometry and Polarimetry) is a Coordinated Action funded by the EU under the Seventh Framework Programme to promote and develop the use of non-destructive characterization of nanomaterials using polarimetry and ellipsometry techniques.
HORIBA Scientific Mission
It aimed at developing strategic guidelines that identify critical technical requirements of current and next generation of ellipsometry and polarimetry tools to fulfill the nanomaterial characterization need, and at realising the link between the user requirements and the technological innovation from different areas.
Key actions will include:
- The establishment of a road map of the tools needed to support the measurement and testing of novel nanomaterials
- The establishment of the medium and long term needs of industries for the characterization of nanomaterials and nanodevices, which can be adressed and solved through the development of new ellipsometry/polarimetry configurations and modelling tools
HORIBA Jobin Yvon commented "it's important for us to work closely with SMEs, industries and scientists to well understand their needs that will help us in the design of innovative ellipsometric and polarimetric solutions. We would be delighted if we can meet you to speak face-to-face about your applications and needs. For more information or to schedule a visit, please send an email to tfd-marketing.sci@horiba.com"

3rd NanoCharM (Winter) School on Ellipsometry
Fundamentals and Applications in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology27th February - 5th March 2010Bad Hofgastein, Salzburg, Austria
No registration fee - the school is sponsored by the European Project NanoCharM. NanoCharM will also sponsor a limited number of students. To apply please send a short CV + half page explaining your interest in ellipsometry to: michael.bergmair@jku.at.
Registration for the school will open in late July / early August.
The closing date for applications will be 15th Dec 2009.
School objectives
This winterschool is the 3rd school in the frame of the EU Project NanoCharM. The lectures are separated in basic and advanced levels and therefore next to the basics and fundamentals of ellipsometry also special topics will be treated. A special focus will be set on surface plasmons and negative refraction structures.
Who may benefit?
The school is aimed at students, researchers and SMEs interested of any level and knowledge of ellipsometry. It helps in understanding the properties of nanomaterials, nanodevices and related processes through the use of polarimetry and ellipsometry techniques.

NanoCharM: an EU Project aimed at bringing Nanomaterials into mainstream markets, achieves two remarkable ‘firsts’.
NanoCharM, a Coordination and Support Action funded by the EU is notable for two ‘firsts’. Not only was it the first to be signed under the EU's Seventh Framework Programme, with a start date of January 1st 2008, but was also the highest ranked CSA project to be approved.
The project ‘kicked off’ at a meeting of the partners on the 8th February in the Italian CNR offices in Brussels.
