For the same price, HORIBA Scientific has introduced a new tunable UV illuminator that provides almost ten times more optical power in the UV than our previous deuterium based monochromator illuminator.

Tungsten halogen lamps are typically selected for their NIR performance and relatively flat spectral output, however when coupled to a monochromator to form a tunable NIR illuminator we also offer a highly efficient PowerArc 75 watt xenon lamp illuminator that delivers more light through a monochromator for all wavelengths up to around 1 micron.

The choice of spectrometer depends on spectral resolution, wavelength range and experimental flexibility required. In some cases a xenon lamp may be a better light source choice because the significantly higher optical power density of these sources delivers more photons through the narrow slits of the spectrometer. Many of our monochromators and spectrographs have dual entrance ports allowing two different light sources to be used with a tunable illuminator. The only real limitation on the choice of spectrometer is the f/#. The f/#of the spectrometer should be no greater than f/4.1 so that the focal cone of the LSD-TH lamp housing does not over fill the optics of the spectrometer and hence introduce stray light.
