Main Purpose of Job

To Support both the H&S Manager and Compliance Manager in the day to day running of the HUK Health & Safety and Environmental management systems.

Main Responsibilities and duties:

Health, Safety & Environmental Officer

  • Support and advise department managers in the creation of risk assessments and method statements.
  • Maintain and monitor areas of Health, Safety and Environmental management systems as requested.
  • Assist with the management of the HUK emergency procedures.
  • Maintain first aid systems within HUK.
  • Assist in the audit and review of all risk assessments/method statements for work carried out by HORIBA UK Ltd. to include occasional work on-site.
  • Monitor and assist in the audit of Environmental, Health & Safety training.
  • Deliver basic in house Environmental, Health & Safety training where appropriate based on established training material.
  • Handle day to day health, safety & environmental concerns and issues, escalating where required.
  • Manage the administrative requirements of the accident/incident and near miss reporting system.
  • Assist in the investigation of accidents and incidents.
  • Provide support to the company Health & Safety Committee.
  • Carry out safety inspections at HORIBA and customer premises and arrange / complete the required actions.
  • Provide support to the Facilities Team with regard to management of contractor health, safety and environmental paperwork.

Person Specification:

Skills and Experience:

Essential

  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Practical experience of creating risk assessments & method statements.
  • Practical knowledge of conducting safety inspections of work areas.
  • Organised with strong initiative, methodical and disciplined.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels.
  • Able to work positively within a team.
  • Good skills in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Able to prioritise workload.
  • A dynamic and positive approach to change.
  • Experience of handling resistance to change with positivity and diplomacy.

Desirable

    • Experience in a specialist H&S/Environmental role.
    • NEBOSH certificate /IOSH Technical Member.
    • Have knowledge of H&S/environmental legislation.
    • Have knowledge of safety and/or environmental management systems.
    • The ability to change approach when dealing with different personalities.
