Concrete Pillar

These two images are taken from two sections of a concrete pillar, and form part of an investigation into acid rain corrosion in building materials.  The elements imaged are Calcium, Sulfur and Silicon.

The sample depicted on the left was fresh, whilst that on the right had 30 months exposure to rain.  The increased presence of Sulfur from the Sulfuric Acid in rain is clearly noticeable, even deep within the concrete structure.
