SPCS-ONE

Solid Particle Counting System

The HORIBA SPCS-ONE series measures solid particle number (SPN) concentrations from engine, vehicle and other particle sources in real time. Configurations are available for particles measured from 23 nm (SPN23), particles measured from 10 nm (SPN10), or simultaneous SPN23 and SPN10 measurement.

Designed for certification testing and research and development, SPCS-ONE supports full-flow dilution, partial-flow dilution and direct-sampling applications. Integration with HORIBA ONE PLATFORM enables compatible SPCS-ONE systems and other HORIBA measurement equipment to be operated through a common interface.

Key capabilities:

  • Measure SPN23, SPN10, or both simultaneously¹
  • Select full-flow dilution, partial-flow dilution, direct sampling, or a combined configuration
  • Measure solid particle number in real time
  • Support certification and development applications
  • Integrate multiple SPCS-ONE systems and compatible HORIBA equipment through HORIBA ONE PLATFORM

¹ For simultaneous SPN23 and SPN10 measurement, either an evaporation tube (ET) or a hot catalytic stripper (HCS) can be selected as the volatile-particle-removal unit. The two technologies cannot be used together. Contact HORIBA for details.

Particle-Number Measurement for Certification and Development

SPCS-ONE supports real-time SPN10 and SPN23 measurement for applicable emissions-certification procedures and advanced research and development. Flexible configurations allow particle-number measurement with full-flow dilution, partial-flow dilution, or direct sampling.

Applications include:

  • Engine and vehicle certification testing
  • Simultaneous particle-number measurement upstream and downstream of a gasoline particulate filter (GPF)
  • Development associated with Euro 7 and GB 7 requirements
  • Engine and aftertreatment development for hydrogen and alternative fuels
  • Particulate-filter evaluation and optimization
  • Piston-ring research focused on reducing oil consumption

Flexible Configurations for Different Sampling Requirements

SPCS-ONE is available in four sampling configurations. Select the model according to the dilution system, sampling location and testing objective.

Brake-Particle Measurement

SPCS-ONE can also support solid and total particle-number measurement in brake-emissions testing. When integrated with appropriate brake-dynamometer, sampling and test-automation equipment, the system helps engineers measure and evaluate particles generated by brake-pad and brake-disc wear.

  • Measure solid particle number (SPN) and total particle number (TPN) during brake tests
  • Support particle-number measurement from 10 nm
  • Evaluate particle generation under different braking conditions
  • Compare brake materials, components and control strategies
  • Integrate particle measurement with brake dynamometers and test automation
  • Support research and testing associated with non-exhaust-emissions requirements

Centralized Operation with HORIBA ONE PLATFORM

HORIBA ONE PLATFORM provides a common operating environment for SPCS-ONE and other compatible HORIBA measurement systems. Laboratories can control multiple systems from one PC, monitor equipment status and bring measurement data together for more efficient processing and analysis.

  • Control multiple SPCS-ONE systems from one PC
  • Operate compatible HORIBA ONE-series equipment through a common interface
  • Centralize equipment status and measurement workflows
  • Import measurement data in batches for efficient processing
  • Support consistent operation across laboratories and test cells

Discover how HORIBA ONE PLATFORM connects and manages laboratory measurement systems.

Compact Design for Flexible Laboratory Use

The compact SPCS-ONE main unit is designed for installation and movement between compatible test locations. Because operation can be centralized through HORIBA ONE PLATFORM, laboratories can relocate the measurement unit without moving a dedicated control PC.

  • Compact footprint for laboratory installation
  • Transportable design for use in different test areas
  • Optional Cooler Unit for ambient temperatures up to 45 °C
  • Main-unit and dual-unit configurations

Calibration and Service Support

ISO/IEC 17025-accredited calibration is available for selected models in supported regions.³ Calibration can be coordinated with maintenance, adjustment and other services to help reduce instrument downtime.

³ Availability varies by model and region. Contact HORIBA for details.
