The LC-170CRP Automated Hematology/Immunology Analyzer

3 Сентябрь 1999 г.

Developed by Horiba, Ltd., the LC-170CRP automated hematology/immunology analyzer will be launched on September 8th as a multifunctional analyzer combining blood cell counting, such as for erythrocytes and leukocytes, and determination of CRP (C-reactive protein) concentration, an index of the progress of bacterial and viral infection. The LC-170CRP has the function of "3-parameter differential WBC counting" for sorting three forms of leukocytes, whose number increase during infection. With its capability of two simultaneous analyses (blood cell counting and CRP determination) with a single sample, combined with the 3-parameter differential WBC counting function, the LC-170CRP facilitates the identification of pathogens in infectious diseases. With its compactness and short measuring time requirement of about 4 minutes, and in consideration of its other advantage of immediate data reflection in the diagnosis at the medical checking site, the LC-170CRP analyzer will be marketed mainly for small-scale hospitals. In addition to domestic sales, the analyzer will be exported to China, Korea and Southeast Asia, where the medical equipment market is likely to grow dramatically.

From the viewpoint of hematology, WBC counts the increase of leukocytes in a short time during pathologic states such as disease and infection. From the viewpoint of immunology, in a pathologic state the CRP concentration rises after a time lag from such WBC count evaluations. In other words, simultaneous blood cell counting, especially WBC counting, and CRP concentration determination would provide data useful for rating infection severity and progress. In addition, because the three types of leukocytes (granulocytes, lymphocytes, monocytes) show different ratios depending on the type of infection, diagnosis of infection (identification of pathogens) would be facilitated by monitoring changes in the 3-differential WBC counts over time.

The newly developed LC-170CRP analyzer is capable of simultaneously achieving blood cell counting (18 parameters, including 3 differential WBC counting parameters and some calculation parameters) and CRP concentration determination by a single unit. As such, the analyzer enables the physician to determine the disease stage, i.e., whether the pathologic condition is going to worsen or remit, thus leading to the development of an accurate and effective therapeutic approach.

In other words, by determining blood cell counts and CRP concentration simultaneously and in several cycles, pathogen identification and pathologic condition transition determination are facilitated; data inaccessible by separate analyses or interval analyses are provided. Also, with its compactness and short measuring time requirement of about 4 minutes, the LC-170CRP can be installed in a small space. It is also beneficial to the patient because the accurate diagnosis based on analytical results is made at the medical checking site, thus obviating the necessity of later re-visits to the hospital. Since the minimum sample volume requirement is as small as 18 ƒÊl, blood sampling via earlobe or fingertip is possible, permitting anxious-free examination for babies and infants.

Major Features
1. Simultaneously achieves blood cell counting (18 parameters, including 3 for differential WBC counting) and CRP concentration determination, thus facilitating infectious pathogen identification and disease stage determination in clinical settings.
2. Permits two analyses with a single whole blood sample without pretreatment. Since whole blood can be directly analyzed without centrifugation or any other pretreatment, both hematological analysis (blood cell counting) and immunological analysis (CRP determination) are possible with a single whole blood sample.
3. Sample volume requirement is as small as 18 ƒÊl. Since the minimum sample volume requirement is as small as 18 ƒÊl of whole blood, blood sampling via earlobe is possible, permitting anxious-free examination for children.
