Dedicated to provide personalized medical care to patients of all ages as a family doctor, responding to various local needs

What is the feature of your clinic?

Though my specialty is gastrointestinal, my clinic aims to be a family clinic which treats a variety of needs in the fields of pediatrics and internal medicine, because my patients' ages range from 0 to 100. For better medical care and efficiency, medical data including the results of echography, endoscope and X-ray are digitized.

We introduced an on-line appointment system to reduce waiting time. For pediatric and circulatory medicine patients, we invite specialists from Toho University Hospital to treat adult patients with angina or irregular pulse and children with allergy or development disorder.

How many patients do you see each day?

About 70-80 in the spring and summer, and 90-100 in the fall and winter, with a ratio of 30% for children and 70% for adults.

How many blood tests do you perform?

5-10 samples with chronic malady like diabetes and lifestyle- related diseases. Acute cases that require CRP measurement from 1 to 3 per day. As our clinic specializes internal medicine, the majority of cases are acute appendicitis, acute gastroenteritis, and pneumonia.

Why do you measure simultaneously CBC and CRP?

Our top priority is on a fast and accurate diagnosis, because we need to care for many patients every day. We use objective test results, in addition to subjective interviewing, to judge whether the patients can be treated at our clinic or needs to be admitted to an ER.

Any cases that CBC &CRP simultaneous measurements were useful?

A man in his 90's had high fever and severe cough with sputum at his house. Our nurse tested CBC & CRP prior to my visit. As both showed high values, I thought he must have bacterial pneumonia. I could provide the proper treatment upon my visit. Another example was a lady in her 70's with lower abdominal pain. Though her clinical condition was not serious, her CRP and WBC were extremely high. I immediately sent her to the ER. Her colorectal cancer had perforated and she developed peritonitis.

How do you collect sample blood?

We collect blood samples from the vein for adults and children. In difficult cases with children, we collect blood samples from the heel.

How do you coordinate with hospitals?

In serious cases, we introduce the patients to Toho University Medical Center, where we have strong relationship.

CBC (complete blood count) contains red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. A CBC also helps diagnose conditions.CRP (C reactive protein) is an acute-phase reactant increased in the serum of patients with pneumococcal infection.
