Histiocyte
  • Size : Very large, >80 µm
  • Normal values : Absent in the blood, present in the bone marrow
  • Description / Pathology :

    Very large size cell, low N / C ratio, rounded central nucleus with lacy (reticulated) chromatin, showing an extensive vacuolated light gray cytoplasm with often multiple inclusions (tingible bodies=phagocytosis product).

    Largely present in the macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) showing erythrophagocytosis and hemophagocytosis.

    Present in non-specific inflammatory granulomas or associated with intercurrent disease (Sarcoidosis, Hodgkin's disease).
