This application note presents a practical workflow for the detection and characterization of microplastics down to 1 µm in table salt. After dissolution and filtration, samples are analyzed using an automated how Raman microscopy approach. The method addresses key challenges such as high particle numbers, particle overlap, and trace-level detection through optimized sample preparation, adapted sampling mass, and a robust statistical strategy. Several polymer types, including polypropylene (PP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyamide (PA), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), butadiene rubber (BR), and silicone, were successfully identified.
