OBS-ONE GS Unit

On-board Emissions Measurement System

Portable Emissions Measurement System for Real-World Testing

Obtaining valid emissions results under real-world driving conditions requires more than measuring exhaust gas concentrations. Engineers must coordinate exhaust-flow, vehicle, GPS and environmental data while monitoring test validity throughout the journey.

The OBS-ONE GS Unit is a Portable Emissions Measurement System (PEMS) for measuring gaseous emissions from light- and heavy-duty vehicles under real-road conditions. It measures CO, CO2, NOx, NO2 and, in selected configurations, THC while collecting exhaust-flow, vehicle-speed, GPS and environmental data to calculate mass emissions.

Designed for regulatory testing and engine and vehicle research and development, the system guides users through test preparation, quality checks, measurement, real-time validation and post-processing. Its modular configuration can be expanded with compatible OBS-ONE particle-measurement units and other sensors according to the testing application.

As part of HORIBA ONE PLATFORM, OBS-ONE provides a common operating environment for compatible HORIBA measurement systems. Centralized device control, system status, maintenance information, alarms and measurement data help simplify operation across real-road and laboratory testing.

OBS-ONE data can also be combined with drive-recording information and HORIBA’s STARS test automation system to reproduce real-world driving events in the laboratory, supporting repeatable engine, powertrain and chassis development.

Comprehensive Real-World Emissions Measurement

The OBS-ONE GS Unit combines the measurements required to calculate and evaluate gaseous mass emissions during on-road vehicle testing.

  • Measures CO, CO2 and NOx
  • Supports NO2 evaluation in selected configurations
  • Includes THC measurement in heavy-duty configurations
  • Measures or acquires exhaust-flow data
  • Records GPS position and vehicle speed
  • Monitors atmospheric temperature, humidity and pressure
  • Acquires exhaust temperature and pressure
  • Calculates mass emissions using synchronized measurement data
  • Supports light- and heavy-duty vehicle configurations

Real-Time Test Validation and Guidance

Invalid measurements can result in lost road-testing time and repeated test journeys. OBS-ONE helps users identify potential problems during the test instead of discovering them only during post-processing.

  • Guides users through preparation, measurement and post-processing
  • Performs system self-diagnosis and pre-test quality checks
  • Supports sensitivity calibration before testing
  • Monitors measurement data during the journey
  • Provides real-time validation and operator guidance
  • Allows the driver to concentrate on driving once measurement has started

Simplified Installation and Flexible Operation

  • Modular system for different vehicle and measurement requirements
  • Front-access design simplifies equipment access
  • One-touch fittings support module and cable connections
  • Suitable for installation on different vehicle types
  • Low power consumption supports extended road operation
  • Power exchange unit enables switching between battery, backup battery and AC power without shutting down the system

Reliable and Safe On-Road Testing

  • Designed to maintain measurement performance across changing temperature, pressure and vibration conditions
  • Uninterruptible power supply helps protect measurement data following an unexpected battery interruption
  • Emergency-stop function shuts down power and gas supply
  • Bottle-free LDV configuration supports safer vehicle installation
  • Optional OBS-ONE RE protection case supports heavy-duty and NRMM applications

Integrated with HORIBA ONE PLATFORM

OBS-ONE uses the same operating environment as compatible systems such as MEXA-ONE and CVS-ONE.

  • View and control compatible measurement devices from one display
  • Monitor complete system status during testing
  • Centralize maintenance information, alarms and system messages
  • Use consistent screen layouts and operating procedures
  • Support future expansion with additional pollutant and particle-measurement capabilities
  • Improve continuity between real-road and laboratory measurement systems
  • Discover how HORIBA ONE PLATFORM connects and manages laboratory measurement systems.

Data Post-Processing and Reporting

  • Calculates and evaluates results for light- and heavy-duty vehicle testing
  • Simplifies complex data-processing workflows
  • Generates reports for certification applications
  • Synchronizes measurement results with GPS information
  • Relates measured data to camera-recorded journey footage
  • Supports ASAM-ODS data handling

Connect Real-World Testing with the Laboratory

OBS-ONE measurement and drive-recording data can be used with STARS software to reproduce real-world driving events in a controlled laboratory environment.

  • Capture emissions and operating data during real-road testing
  • Reproduce road-derived driving events in the test cell
  • Compare real-road and laboratory emissions results
  • Support engine, powertrain, chassis and aftertreatment development
  • Improve repeatability when investigating real-world emissions behavior
