PT% and INR Calibration - Hemostasis Best Practices

Use of Pooled Normal Plasma

For the quality of PT and INR tests, HORIBA recommends that laboratories use a commercial Pooled Normal Plasma (PNP) when changing reagent batches. PNP serves as the best indicator of whether it is necessary to recalculate the local MNPT. For laboratories that perform INR calibration locally, HORIBA suggests using a commercial calibrator.

Benefits of HORIBA PT reagents

  • HORIBA's PT reagents are tested with the most representative commercially available PNPs (Cryopep and NIBSC) for each lot.
  • HORIBA provides the PNP values (Cryopep and NIBSC) obtained at the Quality Department. These values are available in the Documentation Database for reference.
  • HORIBA offers a Batch Booking Program to reduce the frequency of local MNPT calculations.
