
This application note investigates advanced sunscreen technologies including free UV filters, encapsulated systems, and film-forming agents designed to improve photoprotection durability and safety. Results highlight a rapid decrease of organic UV filters on the skin surface after application, which may reduce long-term effectiveness of conventional formulations.
A multimodal analytical workflow combines in vivo Raman spectroscopy using RZ-660 with ATR-FTIR to monitor skin distribution and penetration up to 30 µm. Ex vivo confocal Raman imaging using XploRA PLUS complements the in vivo data. This approach enables 3D mapping of sunscreen retention and comparison of formulation strategies to optimize performance.
