Supply of Safe Drinking Water under Changing Socio-economy
Author: Satoshi TAKIZAWA; Professor, The University of Tokyo -The world’s developed countries have achieved universal access to piped water in the last half of the 20th century, whichenabled eradication of water-related illness and construction of affluent society. In developing countries, access to safedrinking water has risen thanks to the efforts made by governments under the goals of MDGs and SDGs. Piped watersupply plays pivotal role in supply of safe drinking water, but new challenges have emerged such as improving the servicequality, egalitarian supply, and sustainable water supply business management. To overcome these challenges, it isindispensable that we build new water systems that consolidate water-related technologies and business management.
