To further strengthen its local capabilities, HORIBA China established the C-CUBE facility in Jiading, Shanghai, with an investment exceeding 500 million yuan.

Fully operational since spring 2022, C-CUBE integrates research and development, production, training, application engineering, and after-sales service under one roof. The facility supports new-energy-vehicle (NEV) innovation through complete R&D, testing, and validation services—from vehicle-level to system-level engineering across fuel-cell, hybrid, and battery-electric technologies.

Hydrogen Energy and Advanced Testing Applications

C-CUBE delivers a comprehensive hydrogen testing ecosystem spanning the entire value chain—production, storage, transportation, and utilization.

Key application areas include:

  • R&D and testing for fuel cell modules, stacks, power systems, and vehicles
  • Battery and fuel cell material analysis
  • Process control for renewable-energy-based hydrogen production
  • Hydrogen refueling station development

To accelerate China’s transition toward clean energy, the facility features advanced ALK, PEM, and SOE electrolyzer test systems, enabling the development of high-efficiency green hydrogen technologies.

The CHINA automotive testing facility offers:

Short-Stack Test Station (10–50 kW)
  • Configuration:
    • Electronic load (1,000 A / 300 V / 50 kW)
    • Highly dynamic dew point control for hydrogen and air circuits (35°C–90°C, ±1°C steady state, ±2°C under dynamic conditions)
    • Pure oxygen supply for the cathode circuit
    • Dedicated cooling circuit
       
  • Applications:
    • Fuel cell stack development and performance testing

Single Cell Test Station (100 W–2 kW)
  • Configuration:
    • Electronic load (1,000 A, –3 V–10 V / 3.6 kW)
    • Electrochemical workstation (20 A, EIS)
    • High-precision dew point control (RT + 10°C to 90°C)
    • Cathode nitrogen and oxygen mixing, harmful gas simulation, and cell cooling
       
  • Applications:
    • Single-cell fuel cell testing and development
    • Material R&D for catalysts, membranes, and diffusion media

Stack Test Station (50–150 kW)
  • Configuration:
    • Electronic load (150 kW / 1,000 A / 800 V)
    • Climatic chamber (–40°C to 60°C)
    • Pre-cooling hydrogen/air circuits (–35°C)
    • Stack cooling circuit (max. –35°C)
       
  • Applications:
    • Stack performance and durability testing
    • FC-PT co-simulation for fuel cell and electric powertrain integration

The Shanghai workshop covers 800 m2, divided into production, material storage, and logistics zones. With four workstations, it achieves an annual production capacity of 18 units, combining local R&D and production resources for shorter lead times and competitive costs.

    • Laser alignment, torque, calibration, and dynamic balancing instruments

In addition to production and debugging tasks, the workshop supports the after-sales department with repairs, troubleshooting, and R&D validation.
