Getting a Charge Out of Nanoparticles: Zeta Potential

Back to Particle Characterization Products Overview
Back to Particle Webinar List

Webinar Description

Due to their long range, charge effects can be quite important in nanoparticle and colloidal systems. Surface charge on the particle is typically discussed in terms of zeta potential; the potential at the shear plane. Determining the effect of suspension properties, such as dissolved acids, bases, or other ions, on zeta potential allows deliberate design of suspensions and is a critical tool to manipulating nanoparticle behavior. In other words, suspension stability can be effectively manipulated for our benefit.

We discuss:

  • What is zeta potential
  • Determining zeta potential
  • Using zeta potential to predict formulation stability
  • Using zeta potential to cost-effectively flocculate particles in waste
