Biomass Power Generation

Clean Energy as Countermeasures for Climate Change

Biomass power generation harnesses the potential of renewable resources derived from living organisms like plants and animals. The term "biomass" encapsulates the quantity (mass) of biological resources (bio) and denotes organic resources derived from plants and animals, excluding fossil fuels like petroleum and coal, that can be recycled into energy and materials. This encompasses agricultural, forestry, and marine products, as well as rice straw, rice husks, food waste, livestock waste, and wood waste.

During biomass combustion, the carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted is the same CO2 that living organisms absorbed during their growth process. Consequently, biomass is considered "carbon neutral" since its burning does not increase the overall atmospheric CO2 levels. By substituting energy sources and products derived from fossil fuels with biomass, it is anticipated that biomass will play a significant role in reducing CO2 emissions. Its potential applications span diverse fields such as power generation, ethanol fuel production, and the provision of raw materials for plastics.

HORIBA's Solution & Contribution

Biomass power generation can be accomplished through various methods, such as the direct combustion of biomass, the high-temperature pyrolysis of biomass to produce pyrolysis gas, or the fermentation of biogas. In order to address the challenges associated with biomass power generation, HORIBA provides a comprehensive range of analyzers. These analyzers include continuous analyzers specifically designed for the detection of siloxane and other special gases present in biogas, thereby offering effective solutions for the biomass power generation industry.
